UNIKIDS “Survive beyond 5” 3.10.19

We met today to share the Baby Cards from each class. Our cards are being sent away to our local MP and MSP along with a letter to ask for support with the UNICEF “Survive beyond 5” campaign.

Did you know that 5,000,000 children around the world will not live to see their 5th birthday? Essential medicines, vaccines and immunisations are not available to many babies and children. Diseases and illnesses which are fairly  easy to prevent through medication are proving fatal for them.

Immunisation helps to strengthen a child’s immune system to fight diseases like polio, measles, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tuberculosis (TB) and meningitis.

UNCRC Article 1: Everyone under the age of 18 has all the rights in the Convention.

UNCRC Article 24:  Every child has the right to the best possible health. Governments must work to provide good quality health care, clean water, nutritious food and a clean environment so that children can stay healthy. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this.

We hope our government can

  • Raise awareness of the issue
  • Provide extra money or funding to agencies who work to promote children’s health eg UNICEF/Save the Children
  • Provide extra money or funding for immunisations and essential resources
  • Liaise with other governments to promote the very best health care for all children.
