Head- T’s-Party!

Every week in school we have a social skill.

This week’s was Help Someone New or Younger Than You

Staff nominated pupils who were invited, by postcard,  to a tea party and chat today in the staffroom.IMG_1789

Next week’s social skill is:

Rewarding behaviour that makes others feel safe and cared for.

Next week………….

MUGA Action

The day has finally arrived….the MUGA is in use! After a very long wait, the older pupils were delighted to finally get on the MultiUseGamesArea this week.

Thanks to the Parent Council for their great support in bringing this facility to realisation. Thanks to Lizzy, Mike and our own Mrs Armstrong for giving so many of the pupils the opportunity to take part in activities today. And thanks to Kevin and Fiona our FMAs for all their help in getting the MUGA completed. Only another couple of weeks and THE PITCH should be ready too!

Use of the MUGA will be tightly managed as it is not a surface meant for running around and falling over onto. At first we will have it available during class time, looking to playtimes and lunchtimes over the next few weeks once everyone is familiar with the surface.

New Term is a Success Already!!

Want to know how the new year started at Lochardil? Here’s a direct quote from one of our P1s….

“Well….the teacher is nice, she is not bossy and she is good fun. We learned how to draw round our hand and colour it in without going over the lines. My friend is at my table and she has toys hidden in her shoes- I don’t want toys in my shoes, thank you. They didn’t teach to me read today, which was disappointing!”

“Someone was missing their mum.”
“Did you miss your mum?”
“No. I can’t believe I’m actually a P1!”

Thanks to a mum for sharing that 🙂

I went round all the classes today and we had 100% smiley faces.
Here’s to a great year!

Newsletter 11– July 2015

Dear Parents/Carers,

Well, we’ve made it! What a great year we’ve had at Lochardil. The support from staff and parents has been fantastic, thank you. Here’s hoping for good weather so the children can get outside during their holidays.

Mrs Miriam MacDonald

Acting Head Teacher

Parent Focus Groups

We have had another Parent Focus Group and I’m delighted to say numbers are increasing. One of the parents is going to send out a summary newsletter early next session so everyone can see the types of discussions we have. It is so important to have parental views on school improvement.

Eco News

Congratulations to The Eco Committee and Mrs Murray for having all their hard work and commitment recognised through Lochardil Primary bring awarded our THIRD Green Flag! The inspector was very impressed with the pupils and how well they presented themselves.

Leaving Lochardil

As well as our beloved P7s, a number of other pupils will be leaving this week. We are certain you will be successful wherever you go after the great start you have had at Lochardil!

Sadly this time of year usually means saying goodbye to staff members too and this year is no exception.

We have 2 members of staff retiring. Mrs Maggie Macdonald (Gaelic CCR teacher and Gaelic choirmaster supreme) and Mrs Heather Skelton(class teacher extraordinaire) have served the school for many years and along with their considerable teaching skills, their laughter and humour will be a great loss to us all. I’m certain that the relaxation, travelling, visiting friends and not-having-a-bell-decide-when-they-can-have-a-cup-of-coffee of retirement won’t be a match for Lochardil and they’ll be back among us soon….!!

Mrs Joanna Smith one of our Pupil Support Assistants is also leaving and we are very reluctant to see her go. Her calm and reassuring manner is of great support to pupils and staff alike. One of her roles is to keep the House Points scores, so maybe she will miss seeing numbers in her sleep and will quickly come back to Lochardil. We hope so!

Mrs Dianne MacQueen has given a huge amount of support to staff and pupils through her role as Additional Support Needs Teacher- thank you. Lucky Milton of Leys have snapped her up as a class teacher next session.

End of Term

Service for pupils and parents of P7s only:

10am Wed 1st July at Culduthel Christian Centre.

All school lunches for the last day have now been booked and no further requests can be met. Any outstanding money must be in on Wednesday.

The Parent Council are kindly treating everyone to an ice-cream on the last morning of school. As previously advised, please let the school know asap if you do not want your child to have ice cream.

Happy holidays!

School Lunch Payments

To assist with administration, any school lunch cash or cheque pre-payments for the new term, or payments for the current year, should be made to the canteen by Tuesday 30th June.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Newsletter 10– June 2015

Dear Parents/Carers,

Still a whole month of learning to go before the holidays, so we are still at full steam ahead! Lots of exciting things coming up this month. Don’t blink or you might miss something!

Parent Consultation

The recent Parent Forum consultation was a great success. 71% of families responded which is a huge percentage for a poll of this type. Thank you for your interest. Of the respondents, 2/3 of families were in favour of a more flexible approach to forming classes from an educational perspective. There will be lots of planned opportunities to discuss this in more detail over the next session.

Parent Focus Groups

In the spirit of having opportunities to discuss plans and share ideas, I have encouraged parents to contact me at any time. Many parents have and from this has developed a number of Parent Focus Groups. These are informal chats where I can gather parental opinion on school developments.

Eco News

Tuesday 9th sees a visit from an Eco Inspector. There can be no doubt that the inspector will be most impressed with the developments led by Eco Team and Mrs Murray and we will soon be celebrating our 3rd Eco flag.

Parking – Our Responsibilities to Pupils and Residents

A very upset parent came to see me as a result of anti-social and dangerous parking on the corner under the big tree. We have asked for a Police presence to inform drivers of the dangers of parking there. Please DO NOT park on that corner

Caley Thistle

What a great day we had on Friday 29th dressing in Red White and Blue and raising money for The Red Cross. Around £500 was raised by your children. Very well done!

Thank you to the parents who are able to transport pupils to sporting events, accompany then on learning visits,

Thank Caley it’s Fr-ICT-day!!!

Well done to everyone who turned out in red, blue and white today to support our ICT day.  There was a lot going on in school including face painting, beat the goalie and lots more.

All proceeds are going to The Red Cross and so far we have a total in excess of £500! Go Lochardil!

More pictures can be seen on class blogs.

Thank Caley it’s Fr-ICT-day!

As your children may have told you, there is a red, white and blue day on Friday 29th May as Lochardil is celebrating the impending victory of Caledonian Thistle and supporting them into the final.  If your child wishes to dress up they can wear any Highland team or Scotland strip.  Please bring in a small donation (£1). All donations will be going to the Red Cross.

There will also be baking so if pupils would like to bring extra money they can.  If you would like to donate baking we would be delighted. Pupils will also  have a chance to beat the goalie – made up of pupils from P7.

It’s guaranteed to be a fun day!

Scottish Opera P5-7

P5-P7 had a fantastic day yesterday at the Culduthel Christian Centre performing their Scottish Opera ‘Warriers’ show.  It was a fantastic day and the P5-P7 children thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Gymfest Fabulousness!

It was a real privilege for me to watch Lochardil team at Gymfest in Perth on Saturday. Sincere thanks to Hazel Finnigan and Sophie Douglas for all the time they give to creating such artistic routines. I was in trouble with some of the parents for making the chairs bounce with my enthusiastic cheerleading!!

Onesie Day

Well done to Caillean and the rest of the House Captains on their amazing onesie day in aid of Autism Awareness. An amazing bake sale and beat the goalie activities at playtime and a whole school conga with our local press photographer in attendance in the Spring sunshine. There were too many fingers to count getting painted with nail varnish in our extremely busy nail bar and a great time was had by all. Total amount raised is still being counted but will be an impressive amount for a very worthwhile cause.

Perth Perfection for Lochardil Gymnasts!

What an incredible achievement for our gymnasts at the Scottish Schools Finals at Perth this weekend!Team silver for Daisy McIntosh,  Rhea Crawford,  Charlotte Douglas and  Kathryn Brown and an individual silver for Kathryn.

They all performed excellently and were supported throughout by team reserve, Helen.  Next year, these four will have to move up to level 3, which will be a first for Highland Schools at Primary level!!  This means they will be performing floor routines to music, on a 12x12m square floor! Thanks to Hazel for the dedicated coaching she provided, giving the gymnasts such confidence. We are very proud of you all 🙂
