Badminton News – Abi Barrie ranked number 2 in Scotland!

Abigail Barrie  (P5) took part in the Badminton Scotland U11 National on Saturday 12th May – the most prestigious event in Scotland for children that age. Abigail was unseeded in the competition, but battled her way through the stages to compete in the final, where she played extremely well, ending the day being ranked second in Scotland for her age group!

Her fortune continued in the afternoon in the doubles where she was partnered with Pranavi Singh from Glasgow. In a close run final the girls finished as runners-up.

Congratulation Abi, what a SUPERSTAR you are!!

The photo shows Abi proudly showing off her medals with the other winners on the day.

Badminton – Primary School National Championships

Well done to Abigail Barrie (P5) and Laura Broadley (P7) who recently competed at the Primary School National Championships in Perth, having qualified from the Highland Championship.

Abigail, who qualified after being runner-up in the Highland tournament, played in the singles and did extremely well. After winning all her first round pool games she went on to win through to the quarters by defeating the Highland Champion!  She was unfortunately put out at the semi-final stage,  but, WOW, what a fabulous achievement for such a young player competing against girls much older than her!

Laura joined Abigail in the afternoon for the doubles tournament.  Abigail and Laura gave a good account of themselves by winning 3 of their 4 games to finish second in the pool and place them in the top 10 for the main knockout competition.  Although they did not progress any further they put up a very good fight, losing by a narrow margin.

Well done Abigail & Laura, Lochardil are very proud of you!

Girl’s Football Success

Huge congratulations to our Girl’s Football team who won the Corbett Cup at the weekend – their first cup win!

Megan Scott also won the Player of the Tournament – well done Megan!

The girls will also be taking part in the Highland Football Girls Tournament at Invergordon on Tuesday 29th May along with 23 other Highland schools.  We wish them every success.

As P7s from the team move to Secondary school after summer, it would be great if some more potentail players would come along to girls football on a Saturday. Currently they train every Saturday at Inverness Royal Academy astroturf at 10.00 – 11.00am, but once a month there is a SFA friendly tournament where a number of teams meet and play for P2 to P7 and all enjoy it.

The school would also like to send a big thanks to all the coaches who give up their time willingly to coach and encourage the players.

Walk to School Week

Hello from the JRSO team. Next week, from the 21st to the 25th May, is Walk to School Week and we would love if you could take part. Walk to School Week is a country-wide celebration of walking.  In 2017 400,000 children and their families joined the challenge and got a taste of the many benefits the simple act of walking can bring. This year we’re exploring the ecosystem of a tree with our Walking Roots challenge. Pupils who walk to school each day add a sticker to the classroom activity-tree. Each sticker brings the tree to life across the week, from the roots and the trunk, to the colourful leaves and blossoming flowers.

Good Luck!

14th May 2018

Dear P2B Parents/ CarersWe would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Katie Garraway who has been covering our vacant 2 day post in our P2B class. She has been such a wonderful teacher to have as part of our team and I know the children and Mrs Fraser have loved having her with them.  Miss Garraway is relocating to a different city and her last day with us will be Friday 18th May.

We appreciate the job share partner for this class has not been as settled this year as we had planned for. Sourcing available supply teachers is a National problem and we are working hard to ensure the pupils learning continues smoothly during such times.  We are delighted to share Mrs Heather Fraser has agreed to work full time with us until the summer holidays to ensure continuity and stability for her class until the term ends, and that the fab learning and teaching experiences can continue.

As I shared previously this position was advertised by Highland Council until the end of this session and there were no applicants. This position will be filled by a teacher from the generic round of interviews held for teaching positions in Highland Council back in February with a starting date of August 2018.  We will inform all parents of our new staff members in the new term.
