LOCH INSH 28.5.18

Dear Parent/carer,

We trust you have dealt with the unpacking, washing and enjoyed hearing what we were up to last week on our brilliant Loch Insh adventure. It is a pleasure to say how well we participated in all the activities and made the most of the experiences offered. We worked together in our teams and gained a whole new skill set.  While we were all having such a great time, we hope you adjusted to the change in the family dynamics and didn’t feel the week too long!

Hopefully the week away has given your child a new level of self confidence which will help with their resilience in the future as they face other challenges  e.g. moving on to the Academy.

The staff at Loch Insh looked after us so well and we have all taken away some great memories. There are some items of Lost Property which will available for you to reclaim at the Open Morning on Friday 1 June 2018. We look forward to sharing our photos with you too.

The attitude, manners and behaviour of all the pupils was of a very high standard and we appreciate your support with this. Thanks are extended to the members of staff who came along to help make our week such a success.

Yours sincerely

Mrs M Murray and Miss L McLean

Bring on Burns at Culloden

The weather was perfect for a stroll around part of the Battlefield to get some inspiration for our scots language poem about the battle. Robert Burns met Bonnie Prince Charlie but didn’t write about Culloden possibly because he may have got himself arrested! We were tasked with the job of writing a poem like Burns may have done.

We worked well in our groups and shared our creative writing with each other at the end.

Thank you to our parent helpers and to Catriona the Education Officer who led the workshop – once again the verdict was “much better than expected!”

Well done to Anna who was our Star of the Week.

Term 2 successes

Congratulations to our Star of the Month, Callum, who was chosen for our Celebration Assembly on the last day of term. His sets a good example of a hard worker with  a friendly and settled manner. Our story writing was  a challenge this week with  a huge bunch of success criteria to aspire to, but non the less the standard was highly commendable. So hard to choose Star Writers! Well done to Molly, Lily, Josh, Sadie, Izzy and Ellie. Our Star Pupils were Izzy and Lilly who were fantastic DJ’s for the first disco. It was very nerve wracking in front of all the parents and managing to keep the “wee ones” together to enjoy the games. Super achievements everyone.

We did it!

What an amazing amount of money we raised on Thursday at the Dress Up Disco. The support from the school community was fantastic and we have made about £850! This will hopefully go towards offsetting costs for a Term 4 trip.

The stalls were well designed, prepped and presented. They were lots of fun and provided a wide variety to keep everyone entertained. The DJ’s had some super playlists and provided great games for us all to enjoy.

We appreciate your support with buying and providing materials to make the event such a success. We also wish to thank the staff who came along to help.

The pupils worked well together and they really enjoyed the experience. A brilliant night!

Sphero Robots at STEM Hub

We had a creative team building workshop at the UHI STEM Hub this afternoon. We used I-pads to programme our little spherical robot. Firstly, we worked on distance, angles and speed to manoeuvre around cones. Then we used a variety of materials to create a chariot. which would attach on to the Sphero. (foil container, plastic cups, wooden sticks, sellotape, straws, wheels, axle etc)  The finale was the Chariot race at the end! Well done to everyone for super cooperative skills and patience at the testing out phase!

IRA Tour

We were made very welcome today at the IRA and enjoyed seeing round the school. Our sixth year guides were helpful and we spotted some familiar ex Lochardil faces around the place since they didn’t get out on their Sponsored Walk. We look forward to meeting Mr Fyffe and some of the older pupils for  a question and answer session next term. We are going to be part of the largest year group the IRA have ever had – just like our time at Lochardil. Good to keep the record breaking going!

We proudly flew the school flag and enjoyed being photographed and filmed by lots of interested by standers!

It was also good to see Jack, James and Callum there representing other youth organisations in the city.
