Nursery visit

We always enjoy our visits from the nursery children; we have lots of fun sharing some of our activities and learning experiences with them. Today, however, it was our turn to visit them! We went down this afternoon to spend some time in their outdoor area.

We had a look at (and a play with!) all the activities they have outside, like their mud kitchen, their growing area, their sounds and number walls etc. We then came back to our classroom and tried to think of some other areas  that they could perhaps have in their garden, including an outside dressing-up area, a basketball net, a princess fairy castle and an outside story corner with a comfy seat   amongst other things!

We will be visiting them again before the end of term to take part in some joint outdoor activities.

Congratulations…

to Mia, our Pupil of the Month for February.Well done, Mia and thank you for your ‘good sitting,’ ‘good looking’ and ‘good listening.’

Our visit to North Kessock Lifeboat Station

We all really enjoyed our visit to the Lifeboat Station today and we found out lots of very interesting information from the people who work there. We all got a chance to go on the lifeboat and we tried on the lifejackets, which were sooo heavy, and the helmets that the men and women have to wear when they go out to rescue people.

Thankyou to our parent helpers- we hope you had a good time also!

Science week

We enjoyed taking part in various activities this week as part of our whole school science week. On Tuesday, we had a visit from Morag Cooper, a STEM ambassador from UHI. Morag chatted to us about the human body and our senses. We spoke about our sense of touch and did some finger painting. We then used a microscope to look at the patterns made by our fingertips. We also looked at a partner’s fingerprints and discovered that everyone has different prints- no two people have the same, not even identical twins!

We also visited primary 7 to join our buddies and help them with a science task! We were given a balloon, a piece of card, a plastic cup and 2 straws and we had to try to create a ‘spaceship’ that could travel along a piece of string, from ‘Earth to Mars’. It was tricky but lots of fun!

Special visitors

A huge thankyou to Neil and Neil, the two policemen who came to visit us today. As part of our topic work, we have been talking about the jobs people do in Inverness and our visitors told us all about their work and how they help to keep the people in and around Inverness safe. We especially liked being in the police car with the sirens on and also enjoyed watching Neil use his laser to check how fast the other Neil could run across our playground! This is how they check the speed of vehicles  travelling on our roads. Interesting.

The tremendously hard-working children of Primary 1B concentrating on their numeracy and literacy tasks!

We enjoyed having some children from the Nursery visit us today. The boys and girls of primary 1 were excellent role models and enjoyed sharing our numeracy games and activities with them. The nursery boys and girls impressed us with their super number recognition and counting skills. Also, a huge thank you to the primary 6 buddies who are always fabulous helpers during transition activities.

Here is our learning overview for term 3.

Some photographs from our Primary 1 party. Great fun was had by all and the visit from Santa was just the icing on the cake!

A reminder…

The children have all been told but may forget-we will have no more Show and Tell now until after the holidays. Also, we will be collecting in all library books tomorrow but will not give out any new ones, again until after the holidays.

Our Christmas party will be held on Monday afternoon. The children can come to school in the morning dressed in their party clothes or they can bring them in a bag and  change in the classroom at lunchtime. Of course, they may also be home lunch that day and get changed at home. Please check your child’s reading bag for a letter regarding party food.

Thank you, Mrs McArthur.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Our First Nativity

A huge thankyou to all the visitors who came to watch us perform ‘Our First Nativity’. We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed taking part.We worked really hard learning all the songs and actions and Mrs McArthur was so proud of us all. Santa even visited after we had gone home and left us a chocolate coin each because he had been watching in a secret place and thought we were superstars. Amazing!

A reminder…….

Our open morning will be taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, December 7th at 11-11.45a.m. The focus for this visit is to sample some of our ‘Rights Respecting School’ activities so we have decided to begin the morning with a rendition of our School Rights song at 11a.m! The children will then have an activity to complete, which I’m sure they’ll love you to help with and then they can show you  all their hard work which is displayed around our classroom and corridor. We look forward to seeing you!

A very exciting assembly……

It was our turn to ‘show’ at assembly this week. We decided to share the art work we had completed, which related to a favourite book from our book bags.

We shared our shark pictures for ‘Shark in the Park on a Windy Day’, our trophies for the tortoise who won the race in ‘Hare and Tortoise’  and our new  jumper designs for Mouse in ‘There’s a Bear on My Chair.’

We also sang the school ‘Rights’ song that we have been learning in class.

Then……….we had a very, very special visitor. Pudsey came in to collect the money that we had collected for Children in Need and we all got a very special cuddle from him! Soooooo exciting!!!

Happy birthday to Harry, who celebrated his 5th birthday this week…….

What a super time  we had visiting the library on Tuesday. The librarian read us a lovely story, we enjoyed looking at all the wonderful books that we can now borrow and of course, the major highlight was meeting Bookbug!

Thankyou to Mia’s mum and Rudi’s mum for being our helpers!

Eventually getting round to posting some photographs from a very action-packed Friday of last week.

In the morning, we had a ‘pretend’ wedding celebration as part of our Festivals and Celebration topic. This  was organised by Miss Brain and throughout the week, the children had been busy writing menus and invitations and making hats and head-dresses for the special day.

Daniel was the groom, Roddy was his best man, Emilia was the beautiful bride, Ava and Abigail were her bridesmaids and Rudi was the minster who ‘married’ them; a very emotional moment!!!

The guests sat beautifully during the ‘ceremony’ and everyone looked amazing!

We had a drink of water and a little something to eat, then we put on music and had a dance! Great fun was had by all!

We also really enjoyed  our ‘Books and Buns’ in the afternoon and I would like to thank all the visitors who made it such a successful event.

As part of our book week activities, our buddies came to visit and read us a story. They were very impressed however that we could also read them a story, from our reading books!

We have enjoyed lots of fun activities with Miss Brain this week which have helped us learn all about 2-D and 3-D shape.

Well done to Rudi for being our November Pupil of the Month. Rudi achieved his award for’ good looking, good listening and good sitting’. Always a super role model, thank you Rudi!

We all had a super fun time today watching the Hopscotch Theatre performance of Aladdin. A real treat!

Miss Brain has been taking the class for gymnastics. They have been working really hard and have had lots of fun trying to make these shapes.

The ‘opening’ of the remainder of our boxes and the quality of presentation continued to be of a very high standard. A huge well done to all the boys and girls, thankyou for letting everyone know just a little bit more about you.

Drop Everything And Read

We all had fun together  looking at and sharing some of the books from our library. We enjoyed using the pictures to tell others what the stories were about and we were so proud being able to point out some words and sounds that we could read by ourselves!

What a busy, fun afternoon in primary 1B! It was lovely to see so many grown-ups and little brothers and sisters coming along to view all our hard work and help us with our guitar craft. We all enjoyed the visit and would like to say a huge thankyou!

Thankyou mums and dads for helping your lovely children prepare their boxes for our talks this week. I have been really impressed with the ‘presentations’ so far and we have all been learning so much about each other. I can’t wait for the ‘opening ‘ of all the remaining boxes. Exciting!!!!

A change of gym times…

Due to a timetable change, our gym days will now be as follows;

Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning.

We will also have a Wednesday morning slot outdoors on the MUGA but the children will not need to change into gym kit for this. This session  will obviously be weather dependent.

Looking forward to a very fit and healthy year ahead!
